GeForce 180 Drivers Gives GPU Boost

Posted By: Illusion | Sunday 30 November 2008 | Comments [ 1 ]

Found this nifty article over at ZDNet.

"Today I downloaded and installed NVIDIA’s latest GeForce Release 180 drivers (180.48) for my GTX 260 and GTX 280 systems and I’m seeing a dramatic and noticeable performance difference.

NVIDIA aren’t shy about boasting about these drivers. The release highlights make some bold claims:

Up to 10% performance increase in 3DMark Vantage (performance preset)
Up to 13% performance increase in Assassin’s Creed
Up to 13% performance increase in BioShock
Up to 15% performance increase in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
Up to 10% performance increase in Crysis Warhead
Up to 25% performance increase in Devil May Cry 4
Up to 38% performance increase in Far Cry 2
Up to 18% performance increase in Race Driver: GRID
Up to 80% performance increase in Lost Planet: Colonies
Up to 18% performance increase in World of Conflict
In some quick tests I carried out on my GTX 260/QX9770/8GB RAM/Vista Ultimate 64-bit system I (which sees daily use and isn’t optimized for gaming) I saw some impressive improvements:

3DMark Vantage up 7%
Crysis Warhead up 7%
Far Cry 2 up 18%
World of Conflict up 11%
As well as an overall performance increase, I also feel that graphics are smoother and the odd hesitation that I used to feel in some parts of Crysis Warhead and Far Cry 2 (both running at highest graphics quality) is gone.

Not bad results for a driver update.

NVIDIA have also added some new features:

Enables NVIDIA SLI technology on SLI-certified Intel X58-based motherboards with the following GPUs: GeForce GTX 280, GeForce GTX 260, GeForce 9800 GX2, GeForce 9800 GTX+, and GeForce 9800 GTX.
Enables NVIDIA SLI Multi-monitor support, giving you the ability to use two monitors with your GeForce graphics cards in SLI mode. Now you can easily switch between multi-monitor desktop mode and full screen 3D gaming mode.
Enables NVIDIA PhysX acceleration on a dedicated GeForce graphics card. Use one card for graphics and dedicate a different card for PhysX processing for game-changing physical effects."

Crysis: Warhead Nixes DirectX 10 Effects

Posted By: Yourcatch22 | Tuesday 29 July 2008 | Post a comment

This week in an interview with PCGH, Bernd Diemer, the producer of Crysis Warhead, confirmed that the "very High" settings are renamed to "Enthusiast" and will be available for DirectX 9 as well. This means players using DirectX 10 or DirectX9 will be able to use the high graphics settings.
"Bernd Diemer: The former "very high2 settings are now called "enthusiast” and this option is now available for DX9, too. We removed this exclusiveness and thought: If people want to run this on their system, why should we restrict it?

PCGH: So there are no visual differences between the DX9 and DX10 version anymore?

Bernd Diemer: If the system can display it, because it has the performance, this is right."
PCGH will be releasing the full interview with Bernd Diemer later in the week, and we will let you know once it becomes available.

Crysis Killers '08

Posted By: Yourcatch22 | Monday 28 July 2008 | Post a comment

With 2008 already half over, PCGHX has put together a list of games that will be released this year which have the potential to beat out Crysis in terms of graphics quality. The editors ranked these games solely on graphics and not necessarily overall game play, which is apparent considering even Turok The Dinosaur Hunter was listed as a potential "Crysis Killer".
"Assassin's Creed and Turok are the only games, from a list of (possibly) high-end graphics titles that could beat Crysis, which have been released already. Two more games can be ignored, too, since Alan Wake and Duke Nukem Forever are unlikely to be released in 2008. But some new games have been added, too. Browse our picture gallery to see which titles that are said to be released in 2008 could possibly cap Crysis' graphics."

EA and Crytek officially announces Crysis Warhead

Posted By: Taylor | Thursday 5 June 2008 | Comments [ 1 ]

Crytek has officially announced the production of "Crysis Warhead". With a statement by Yerli, we have a little insight on what's to be.

"That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis."

You will be playing as Psycho but everything will be taking place at the same time as the first Crysis, but you will be on the other side of the island where you learn what really happened to Psycho.
